Aloha Friday – Art Work

It’s Friday, which means that over at An Island Life it’s time for Aloha Friday

My two girls just finished their school year and came home with a bunch of art work they created. I mean a lot of it.

What are some things I can do with art work so it doesn’t get stuck in a folder and never seen again?

You can create a art book like photo albums, a frame and rotate say every month or so. I do that with my sons. I have a frames that I have and I rotate every so often with something new.

I would use them as backgrounds in a scrapbook! My son does a lot of finger painting and coloring, pictures that would be great backgrounds in a book made for him.

I actually liked that my mom put my artwork in a folder! Then as I got older it would be fun to see all those pictures again!

As a kid my artwork got put into boxes in the garage and we would pull it out from time to time and reminisce :)

You can get those frames that are made to hold children’s artwork! You can designate a room of your house to “display” them all. You can laminate them and make placemats. Or you can do what I do and just let them stack up while thinking about all the stuff I COULD be doing with them!! ;-)

I was also going to suggest making scans to keep or photos of it. They always will be kept and you can use them in a variety of ways later on.

Put them in a Frame. That is what I’m going to do in my hall way. Maybe make a scrapbook of all the art work.

Some ideas shared in my forum

Choose one picture each month and mount it with previous selections along your child’s bedroom wall

Scan and use it for projects. Scan artwork and e-mail a card to grandparents. Later, you can turn that scanned graphic into note cards, stationery, collages or even postcards by printing on postcard-sized photo paper, ready to be dropped in the mail

Take it online. Internet art galleries offer a great way to share your child’s artistic accomplishments with friends and relatives. Kids’ Space is an international site where kids can submit audio files of their music or digitized drawings. Global Children’s Art Gallery is a non-profit site with more than 1,000 pictures currently on display. Some of the artwork has even been used in UNICEF calendars.

scan it into the computer, print it out onto fabric and then incorporated it into a graduation quilt. Not only scanned some of her artwork, but also scan poems, reports and certificates.

Make placemats. Laminate paintings or drawings and turn them into placemats. These make great gift items for friends and family.

I would either put them into a scrapbook, or take photos of them and put the photos into the scrapbook.

I think you should sew all the pieces together to make a stunning quilt or throw for the couch. Laminate first, of course. Please take a picture and post on the blog once you complete the aforementioned blanket. hee hee…
