My oldest daughter attends a school where they have an artist of the month. This month her artist is Jackson Pollock. She came home from school the other day & told me all about him and his “action painting” style.
I thought it might be fun to have my girls do a little action painting of their own, so I did a some research & found this video which we watched together.
Then, we decided the best place to set up would be in our backyard. I got 6 colors of paint, and filled 6 plastic cups about 1/4 full. Then I put a table cloth we use for crafts on the grass.
My husband went out in the garage. He got some paint brushes, a paint stick, & a couple spoons. One of the things Pollock said was that he used all kinds of instruments to paint.
It took a little bit of convincing to get my little one to just fling the paint off the brush, but once she got the hang of it, the “action” idea they were both off and running, flinging paint all over the place.
They had so much fun, running, painting, & even doing cartwheels with paint brushes in hand. I’d love to see Jackson try that. Paint was everywhere, and they loved it.
Of course, trying to capture “action” painting in still pictures is impossible, so I had to video tape it. My favorite part is the giggles.
