Giving Choices in Spelling

Everyday last year my daughter had to write her spelling words two times each.  She never complained but I was bored for her.  There are so many fun things you can do to practice the words so this year I decided to give her choices.  She has to do her page from her spelling book and then I have come up with 4 choices of things she can do each day to practice her words.  She loves it!   I keep it for 4 weeks and then make a new one.  It’s so fun to see her excited about spelling again.  Here’s an example I did for her a couple of weeks ago and here’s the latest one.

You are so right – copying words is exactly that – copying words! Great ideas!

I liked the word train myself. What’s your daughter’s favourite one?

This year Emma has a 3×3 grid where she can pick three different spelling activities each week (they have to be in a tic-tac-toe type line). Whenever she does all 9 of the different activities (over a period of 3 weeks) there is an incentive, so they don’t do the same ones over and over – although they could.
