I found this cute idea here (she has a printable pattern for the trees) and my girls loved it. We talked about what prefixes are and how they change the root word. Then I gave them lots of examples but only focused on re, un, and pre. I wrote the prefix on the trunk of each tree and the meaning. Then they gave me words that had those prefixes in them and I wrote them on the leaves.
I only took a picture of part of our “forest”.
The next day I introduced suffixes and played a fun game. I wrote different prefixes and suffixes on index cards. Then I would turn one over and the first one to shout out a word that had it in it got to keep the card.
