We had so much fun studying the planets and learning about how amazing our solar system is. If you missed our first part of our unit you can find it here. I printed off a great planet book (I decided to let them decorate their own cover) and everyday we studied 2 planets. Then the girls would have to write 3 facts down for each planet and then draw a picture of what it looked like. Now they each have a Planet Book with 3 facts about each planet to read. I had cling on planets that we stuck to our sliding glass door to learn the order. Each morning I would add the next 2 planets we were going to study. They loved mixing them up and putting them back in the correct order.

We made these great art projects by using a spray bottle that I filled with white paint. The girls sprayed the background and then decorated their planets. They added glitter stars, star stickers, and their planets. They turned out so cute!

Our last day I sent them on a scavenger hunt. I hid 18 fact cards around the house and in the backyard. They had a piece of paper with questions to fill out. They had to read each question and search for the correct fact card to find the answer. They loved this and learned so much in the process. I printed the fact cards here.

Today we worked on a solar system kit I bought at Michael’s but didn’t have time to finish it. It was a little tricky because the planets are so small but they had fun painting them and watching them revolve around the sun. Here is our unfinished project.

My girls are into scavenger hunts, so I’m going to try this educational one.
