Then I got to thinking of all the other things I could use them for.  Here is my list so far:

  • sight words
  • letter or number identification
  • colors
  • names of students in my class with their pictures
  • mini class books
  • shapes

The list goes on and on.  Sorry the first picture is so bad.  The stickers spell out Memory Verses.

We have had many changes over the summer.  We welcomed our third little girl into the world in June, the girls moved into the same room and we decided to home school our oldest daughter who will be beginning first grade on Tuesday.  She will go to school two days a week and be home schooled the other three days. I will also be working on the two days she will be in school.  I am nervous and excited all at the same time.  For those of you who home school, feel free to share any tips you have learned along the way.  I will let you know how the first couple of weeks go.

I write 4 or 5 sentences that need to be corrected.  I haven’t started omitting words yet for Ashlyn but I think she is ready for me to.  I underline the words that need to be fixed to make it easier for her and she has to correct them.  After doing this a few times, I don’t have to underline the incorrect words for her.

This is an easy way to review spelling words, sight words, punctuation marks, and when to use capital letters.

Molly is amazing and our other two girls adore her. We are a little sleep deprived but can’t complain. Our friends and family have been wonderful and we can’t thank them enough. My friend Sheli set up a meals on www.takethemameal.com beginning the first day we got home from the hospital. If you have never used this website I highly recommend it. For 4 weeks now, we have received delicious meals 4 nights a week. Not having to worry about what’s for dinner has helped out so much. Throughout this past month, Chris and I have been reminded what an awesome community we have!

I came up with 20 ideas of fun things to do and wrote them on little slips of paper.  When they get bored or are wanting something else to do I have them pick a paper from the Idea Jar.  Some of the ideas I put in are : do a puzzle, play with play doh,  build something using all the blocks, write a letter or draw a picture for someone, make a necklace or bracelet for a friend, call Grandma on the phone, play a game with your sister, paint a picture, etc.

They love closing their eyes and choosing an activity.  If they don’t like the first one I let them draw one more.  This way they have two to choose from.

]]> http://www.teachingtwo.com/2010/07/05/idea-jar-boredom-busters/feed/ 3 Please Pray For Ava http://www.teachingtwo.com/2010/07/04/please-pray-for-ava/ http://www.teachingtwo.com/2010/07/04/please-pray-for-ava/#comments Sun, 04 Jul 2010 15:41:23 +0000 Anne surgery brain cancer essentially rare malignant doctor results http://www.teachingtwo.com/?p=918 Our Pastor’s 5 year old granddaughter had brain surgery last week in order to remove a tangerine sized tumor.  She had been having headaches so her Mom took her to the doctor.  The next morning she was in surgery.  The test results came back showing that it was malignant.  It is a rare, very aggressive type of brain cancer that essentially doesn’t respond to any medicine.  Her entire family is relying on God to perform a miracle and heal sweet Ava.  Please join me in praying for this amazing little girl.  Her Dad has a blog that he writes on daily if you want to get updates about her progress.  Thanks!
