Learning Colors with Mickey Mouse

The other day I went to Home Depot to get some flowers.  My front yard is in desperate need of something colorful.  I walked around for 45 minutes and found nothing I liked.  Why is it that when you want to spend money there is nothing to buy but when you don’t you find everything you need and end up spending a fortune?  Anyway, I spent nothing that day but I did see these paint color samples that reminded me of something I did with Ashlyn when I was teaching her her colors.

If you go to the paint section look for the Disney section.  They have cute little Mickey Mouse shaped color samples.  I stole borrowed one of each color and glued them onto an index card.  These homemade flashcards were a big hit with her.  After she mastered her colors I wrote the color words on the back and we practiced reading the words.

Learning About Colors

ColorThis is a fun activity I did with Ashlyn when she was learning about colors. I got an ice cube tray and filled it with water. Then I had Ashlyn put a couple drops of food coloring in each cube. If your child is just learning about colors then have them tell you each color. Put it in the freezer and they will have different colored ice. With Ashlyn, I had her mix some colors to see what color it made. She found out that red and blue makes purple, etc.
