Here is a fun, healthy snack I saw a few years ago in Family Fun magazine.  My girls made their own this afternoon in about 5 minutes.  Here is how we made it.

1. Cut 3 thick slices of banana for the body.

2.  Add a triangle piece of apple for his hat with a grape on top.

3.  For his eyes and buttons the magazine said to use mini choc. chips but we used raisins instead.  I had the girls bite them in half  so they would stick better.

4.  We then used 2 pretzel sticks for the arms and a sliver of carrot for the nose.

It was easy to make and healthy to eat!

tempt.jpgI don’t cook or bake so I’m really proud of myself that this is my second Tempt My Tummy Tuesday post.  My first one wasn’t actually a recipe but a resource of where you could find lots of recipes depending on what you are craving.  So I’m not sure if that really counts so I’m trying it again!  This recipe is for a snack called Puppy Chow.  I haven’t made it yet but I have tasted it and it was delicious so I wanted to share.  Enjoy!

  • 1/2 cup Margarine
  • 12 oz. pkg. semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 12 oz. box of Crispex cereal
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

In a large bowl microwave the margarine.  Add Choc. chips and peanut butter and heat until melted.  Stir until it is a creamy blend.  Then stir in the cereal until it is coated.  Place cereal and powder sugar in large plastic bag.  Shake until cereal is coated with the powdered sugar.

For those of you who know me you know I have about 3 meals I can cook.  But if I was the cook in the family, I would totally use this website.  Forget the question “What’s for dinner?”  How about building your dinner around the question, “What are you craving?”

Cookthink is a website designed to do just that.  All you have to do is type in what you’re craving and it’ll give you options based upon those cravings.

Not only that, but you can combine cravings.  So let’s say you’re craving pasta, your husband is craving sausage, and your 2-year old is craving broccoli (go with me on this), you would type in all 3 things, separating them by commas, and it’ll narrow down your choices.

]]> http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/03/09/what-are-you-craving/feed/ 5 Moon Mud Recipe http://www.teachingtwo.com/2008/09/26/moon-mud-recipe/ http://www.teachingtwo.com/2008/09/26/moon-mud-recipe/#comments Sat, 27 Sep 2008 01:59:03 +0000 Anne moon flubber stretchy kindof brought playdoh heard school http://www.teachingtwo.com/2008/09/26/moon-mud-recipe/ If you don’t know what “moon mud” is then maybe you’ve heard of Flubber.  It’s kind-of like stretchy playdoh.  Anyway, my 4 year old brought some home that they made at school.  Her class had been talking about the Earth and space.  She was so excited to play with it and show her sister when she got home.  They ended up playing with it at the kitchen table for over an hour.  It was so neat to watch all that they created with it.

I’ve always wanted to make it but never did.  I didn’t know it was so easy!  Here’s the recipe.

1 1/2 cups of cold water

16 oz. Elmer’s glue

1 cup of very hot water

2 Tbsp. Borax ( the laundry booster)

In a large bowl, pour cold water.  Add glue and mix well.  In a separate bowl, pour hot water.  Add Borax.  Next add the hot mixture with the cold mixture and knead immediately with your hands.  At first it will feel very messy but within seconds it will become a good consistency.

This can be stored in a zip-loc bag for a couple of months.  This recipe makes a large batch, but you can cut it in half.  After it is made you can let your child color it with washable markers.  The colors will swirl together.  Playing with it has so many educational experiences.  Have fun!
