Thu, 02 Feb 2012 01:44:45 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.1.3 More Fireworks http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/03/more-fireworks/ http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/03/more-fireworks/#comments Fri, 03 Jul 2009 20:20:08 +0000 Anne fireworks arranged pipecleaners folded half wanted made make http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/03/more-fireworks/ We made fireworks the other day but the girls wanted to make more.  I used pipecleaners this time and folded them in half and arranged them to look like a firework.  Then we dipped them in red and blue paint and added glitter.  Ashlyn would use glitter on every craft we did if I let her.  Very simple but lots of fun.   We are headed to a 4th of July parade tomorrow so we made star wands (princess wands) to take with us.  Hope everyone has a great 4th!

]]> http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/03/more-fireworks/feed/ 5 Fun Cheap Crafts http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/01/fun-cheap-crafts/ http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/01/fun-cheap-crafts/#comments Wed, 01 Jul 2009 18:50:41 +0000 Anne michaels girls http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/07/01/fun-cheap-crafts/ I took the girls to Michaels the other to pick up a few things. I hit the jackpot.  They have tons of craft kits for $1.00!  I bought a few for those days when I hear “Mommy, I want to make something.” or “Mommy, there’s nothing to do!”  I’m going to go back and get more for birthday gifts too.  Here are a few that I got. 

  • Mosaic Butterfly Kit- Emily picked this one out.  It includes 975 foam square stickers with a butterfly template to follow.  We only used about half of them so now I am trying to figure out a fun project to do with the others.  This was great to work on her fine motor skills and following directions.  Plus it was fun!
  • Foam Notebook Kit- It includes 10 sheets of paper, foam and lots of fun things to decorate the notebook. Perfect for Ashlyn to decorate and write in. 
  • Fun Fusion Beads.  It comes with 225 beads and a pegboard.  You follow a pattern and then use an iron to melt the beads together.  Ashlyn was so proud of her bee creation!

I can’t wait to go back and shop some more!

  • cupcake liners
  • markers
  • scissors
  • glitter (optional)
  • blue or black construction paper

Ashlyn colored the liners with markers.  Then she folded them in half and then in half again and cut slits in them.  She glued them to the blue construction paper ( I think black would have looked better but we didn’t have any) and then she added glitter to make the fireworks sparkle.  Happy 4th of July!

]]> http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/06/29/fireworks-happy-4th/feed/ 5 Camping Day http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/06/04/camping-day/ http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/06/04/camping-day/#comments Fri, 05 Jun 2009 03:08:54 +0000 Anne camping binoculars picnic rocks planned activities friday friendly http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/06/04/camping-day/ We are going camping for the first time with the girls (and as a couple) in a week and the kids are so excited.  I thought I would have a camping day indoors first .  So today while they were resting I planned a whole day of fun activities for Friday.  I took these pictures the night before because I knew I wouldn’ t have time to blog about it tomorrow.  Below is a picture of everything I will need.  Here is what I have planned for them:

  • After breakfast they will decorate two toilet paper rolls using bug stickers, markers, stamps, etc. to make binoculars.
  • rock painting- I found 4 awesome rocks that I “borrowed” from a distant neighbor. :)
  • creating sculptures using toothpicks and mini marshmallows
  • making numbers using playdoh (not really a camping activity but I found a sheet that had snakes on it)
  • bug hunting in the backyard using their binoculars and bug jars they made at Emily’s b-day party. 
  • making their own “trail mix”- popcorn, peanuts, m&m’s, Cheerios
  • reading in their tent and sleeping bags
  • having an indoor picnic using our picnic basket
  • counting activities with fireflies that I found here. 

I will let you know how it goes and try to take pictures but I can’t promise anything.  I plan on tackling Emily’s dresser in between activities.

They watercolored the back of a paper plate and then I folded it in half.  I cut strips of wax paper and had them decorate them with sequins.  I stapled the wax paper on the inside of the plate and then the girls added googly eyes.

This craft was so easy and turned out really cute.  I got 2 toilet paper rolls and cut one about 1/4 of the way down.  Then I cut out a window in the tallest roll and cut rectangles out of the top of each one to make them look like castles.  We collected sand and crushed up shells from a park across the street.  We covered the rolls in glue and Ashlyn rolled them in the sand.  Then she cut a triangle out of paper to make a flag and she glued it to a toothpick.

For room time my 2 year old did an activity with magnetic letters.  I colored and cut out some beach pictures with the words at the bottom(crab, sand, towel, etc) and put a magnet on the back.  Then I gave her a cookie sheet and some magnetic letters and had her spell out the words.  She was so proud of herself.

]]> http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/05/07/friday-showcase-beach-theme/feed/ 9 Flip Flops http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/04/22/flip-flops/ http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/04/22/flip-flops/#comments Wed, 22 Apr 2009 20:22:14 +0000 Anne flip flops flop shoes feet trace live shapes http://www.teachingtwo.com/2009/04/22/flip-flops/ I live in my flip flops and so do my girls.  So I decided to have Ashlyn make some just for fun.  I made some flip flop shapes(or you could just trace their feet with their shoes on) and let her decorate them however she wanted.  I had dot markers and stickers for her to use.  She finished one and I told her she could do the other one the same or different it was up to her.  She said,  “Mommy, I want to make them symmetrical like butterfly wings.”  I was impressed and asked her how she knew that.  She said that her teacher, Mrs. Scott taught her that word.  We are really going to miss her when school gets out.  I hole punched three holes and used pink rick rack to finish it off.  I’ve also used pipe cleaners for this as well.  Here is the final project.  Not completely symmetrical but good enough for a 5 year old.
